Online Kelowna Poetry Contest

Celebrate Poetry Month with the Online Kelowna Poetry Contest for Adults! Are you feeling creative? Write a poem and submit your entry between April 1 to May 31st. Please email your poem to klreference@orl.bc.ca along with your name and phone number or drop hard copies submissions to your branch and we will make sure your poem will be send to Kelowna Downtown Library.

Submission Guidelines:

  1. There is no set theme. Let your imagination run wild!
  2. Poetry can be written in any poetic style and on any subject but must be in English.
  3. Only one poem per person. Multiple entries will not be accepted.
  4. The poem must be an original work by the person entering the contest. Plagiarism is a serious offense!
  5. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday , May 31st 16 at 8:00 p.m. 
  6. Poems containing language that is vulgar, offensive, or inappropriate will not be accepted.
  7. Prizes:

        1st prize- one book and a $25 Mosaic gift certificate

        2nd prize- two books

        3rd prize- one book

Online Presentation by the Rick Hansen Foundation for Grades K-5

By treating kindness, compassion and empathy as intentional acts, your students create positive environments that are inclusive, respectful and free from bullying.  Kids will learn how all acts of kindness, no matter how big or small, make our schools, homes, and communities a much better place to live. “Be Kind” presentations focus on anti-bullying, respect, empathy and kind actions.

Paulo Guerrero is an adventurer living in North Vancouver. He especially enjoys exploring up in the mountains, paddling in the ocean and even bungee jumping! Paulo sustained a spinal cord injury, following a motorcycle accident in 2018. Being paralyzed from the chest down hasn’t changed Paulo’s optimistic outlook on life. He will share the importance of attitude, perseverance and how they can be difference makers in creating a more inclusive and accessible world. 


School classes, homeschoolers and individuals are all welcome to register.

Get Maker Certified

This 90 minute one-on-one appointment with our technical staff will help get you started using the equipment in our Makerspace.

Materials for training will be supplied where relevant (subject to availability,) although some equipment requires removable storage devices like a USB stick, portable hard drive, etc, to save your work.

Note that in Vernon, currently only two pieces of equipment require certification before use:
  • 3D Printer
  • Cricut Maker
The rest of the makerspace equipment (including the soundbooth,) can be used without certification, after a brief orientation the first time you use them, although you *can* book this time to get extra help using any of our equipment.

Please note that if you're looking for help with the soundbooth, you need to make an additional reservation alongside this one- please see https://orl.evanced.info/spaces/Patron/Results to reserve the soundbooth for the same time.
