Celebrate Poetry Month with the Online
Kelowna Poetry Contest for Adults! Are
you feeling creative? Write a poem and submit your entry between April 1 to May
31st. Please email your poem to klreference@orl.bc.ca along
with your name and phone number or drop hard copies submissions to your branch
and we will make sure your poem will be send to Kelowna Downtown Library.
Submission Guidelines:
There
is no set theme. Let your imagination run wild!
Poetry
can be written in any poetic style and on any subject but must be in English.
Only
one poem per person. Multiple entries will not be accepted.
The
poem must be an original work by the person entering the contest.
Plagiarism is a serious offense!
The
deadline for submissions is Wednesday , May 31st 16 at 8:00
p.m.
Poems
containing language that is vulgar, offensive, or inappropriate will not
be accepted.

I know you love your pet(s). Would you like to share a nice picture of it and a small description to bring some joy to our community? Photos of your four-legged friends will be displayed for an entire month on a board at the Downtown Kelowna Library. Please send to klreference@orl.bc or bring cool photos of your pets with a small description of them.

Walk your way through a classic Choose Your Own Adventure novel! Each decision takes you to a different spot in the library to continue the story. How will your adventure end?
Register on your own or as a group to receive an Online Escape Room link. Once you have the link, you can do the escape rooms any time you want.
If this is your first time registering for an online program, please check your email for an Email Verification request. Once you have verified your email with our online registration system, you will receive a confirmation message with the links included.
Practice your reading skills by registering for a free 20-minute session to read with a certified St. John's Ambulance therapy dog! For ages 6 to 12.
Session times available are:
3:00 PM to 3:20 PM
3:30 PM to 3:50 PM
4:00 PM to 4:20 PM
When registering online, it will appear that you are registering for a 30 minute session, but the last 10 minutes of the session block are to provide a break for our dog. Sessions are only 20 minutes long.
Research shows that reading to a dog is tremendously motivational for kids and provides a calming, relaxed environment for children who may feel hesitant or anxious about reading.
Kids must be school-aged, able to read some words on their own, and feel comfortable reading with a dog and the dog’s adult handler.
On your mark, get set, GO! Kids will code their own games based on traditional sports like archery, hockey, and skiing. Kids will learn beginner-friendly coding skills using the drag-and-drop block coding platform Scratch. Hit the trails and skim the slopes with us!
The classic game of strategy! Join us every Thursday to master your moves and challenge your peers in this casual drop-in event. Chess boards and pieces provided but feel free to bring your own. All skill levels welcome!
At the Kelowna MakerSpace, you will find equipment and tools for hands-on projects, digital media creation, and exploring new technologies. We offer in-person certifications for our equipment, Each Thursday features a different station (3D Printing, Circut Maker and Heat Press, Sublimation Printing, Whisper Room). Get the family dancing, singing and learning together in this FREE drop-in Story Time.
Join us in the Spartan Room at Parkinson Recreation Centre (1800 Parkinson Way, Kelowna) for fun stories, rhymes, puppets and songs featuring books selected for children ages 3 - 6 and their caregivers, but all children are welcome.
This Story Time assists in the development of early literacy skills.
This program
is recommended for toddlers 18 months - 3 years and their caregivers. We welcome
the whole family to join in the fun! Drop-in to this FREE program.

Join us after Toddler Time for Stay & Play, an unstructured playtime for children and their caregivers to socialize and explore. Soft play equipment and a variety of toys will be available. Perspectives is a book club that explores a diversity of experiences to build understanding, empathy, and compassion. It is a safe place where people can come together to discuss important topics and share their experiences.
Every month we'll read a different book based on a social justice theme drawn from the Global Justice Calendar and meet to discuss and reflect on the themes and values expressed in it.
