Honouring Indigenous Writers - Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Downtown Kelowna
Classroom 1

Event Details

In December 2015 Daniel Heath Justice (author of “Why Indigenous Literature Matters") began a Twitter campaign to share the names of Indigenous writers. The reason for his efforts was to “...push back against the frequent assumptions that our literary history is any less complex, robust, or diverse than that of other peoples.”(p. 213)

The Honouring Indigenous Writers Wikipedia Edit-a-thon is seeking to improve the coverage of Indigenous writes on Wikipedia and to encourage diverse community editors to actively work to dissuade assumptions about Indigenous literature by raising their profile in this increasingly influential information source.

No experience--or tech savvy--is necessary. Volunteers will be on hand to guide participants through every step of the process. Everyone is welcome and you are not required to attend the full session. Drop-in or come by with a group and work together on an article. The atmosphere will be fun and community-oriented with lots of opportunities to learn and share.
